Physiotherapy for vertigo, dizziness and balance problems

Dizziness, vertigo and balance problems can affect walking, work, exercise and everyday activities.

At Physiomax Health, we provide individualized vestibular assessment and rehabilitation for adults experiencing vertigo, dizziness, unsteadiness and balance-related concerns.

When Should You Consider Vestibular Physiotherapy?

  • Vertigo or a sensation that the room is spinning
  • Dizziness with changes in head or body position
  • Dizziness when rolling over or getting out of bed
  • Unsteadiness or difficulty with balance
  • Difficulty walking in busy or visually stimulating environments
  • Dizziness with head movements
  • Motion sensitivity
  • Persistent dizziness following a concussion
  • Reduced confidence with walking because of dizziness or imbalance

Vestibular Conditions We Treat

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
A common cause of positional vertigo that may produce brief episodes of spinning with movements such as rolling in bed, looking upward or getting up.
  • Vestibular Neuritis and Labyrinthitis
Vestibular conditions that can cause sudden vertigo, dizziness and imbalance and may benefit from progressive vestibular rehabilitation.
  • Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD)
Persistent dizziness or unsteadiness that may become more noticeable when standing, moving or in visually complex environments.
  • Cervicogenic Dizziness
Dizziness associated with neck dysfunction where cervical assessment and rehabilitation may form part of treatment.
  • Ménière’s Disease
Physiotherapy may help address persistent balance and movement-related difficulties associated with vestibular dysfunction.
  • Post-Concussion Dizziness and Balance Problems
Vestibular rehabilitation may form part of a broader concussion rehabilitation program when dizziness, motion sensitivity or balance difficulties persist.
Retain any additional clinically appropriate conditions already listed on the existing vestibular page.

What Does a Vestibular Physiotherapy Assessment Include?

Your assessment is individualized according to your symptoms and history and may include evaluation of:

  • Balance and walking
  • Eye and head movement coordination
  • Positional symptoms
  • Gaze stability
  • Motion and visual sensitivity
  • Neck movement and function when relevant
  • Functional activities affected by dizziness or imbalance

The findings help determine whether physiotherapy is appropriate and guide an individualized rehabilitation plan.

How Can Vestibular Rehabilitation Help?

  • Repositioning manoeuvres Specific techniques may be used for positional vertigo such as BPPV when clinically indicated.
  • Gaze stabilization exercises  Exercises designed to improve the ability to maintain visual focus during head movement.
  • Balance and gait training Progressive exercises to improve stability during standing, walking and everyday movement.
  • Habituation and movement exercises Gradual exposure to movements or environments that provoke symptoms may be used when appropriate.
  • Strength and functional exercise  Rehabilitation may also address strength, mobility and physical function when these contribute to balance or activity limitations.

Why Choose Physiomax Health?

At Physiomax Health, vestibular rehabilitation is part of a broader approach to movement and function.
Our care is individualized and research-driven, with assessment findings used to guide treatment and progression rather than relying on a standard exercise program.
Where symptoms overlap with other concerns – such as concussion, neck dysfunction, neurological conditions or general balance impairment – we can consider these factors as part of the overall physiotherapy assessment.
